The Arizona Cardinals are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2017 season that saw them miss the playoffs for the second straight year.

They will have to do so without their starting center AQ Shipley, who tore his ACL in training camp over the weekend, effectively ending his 2018 campaign before it even began, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The injury occurred during a red zone drill on Saturday that forced him to limp off the field.  He has been a reliable source of protection up the middle for the Cardinals over the last few years on an offensive line that has experienced numerous injuries. In fact, he was only the only offensive lineman last year to play all 16 games in the regular season, and he has missed just two snaps over the last two years combined.

Shipley has spent the last three seasons with Arizona, holding down the starting job throughout his tenure. His injury forces the Cardinals to turn to rookie center Mason Cole, who was selected with the 97th overall pick in the third round of this year's draft out of Michigan.

Although this is a major loss on the offensive line, the timing of the injury does provide Cole with the chance to get more acclimated to the huge responsibility he has been thrust into just prior to the start of the preseason. The Cardinals are set to begin preseason action on Saturday night at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.
