The Washington Redskins made headlines with the release of safety D.J. Swearinger. It appears Swearinger learned a lesson that could help with his career longevity.

Swearinger was released for his brutal honesty regarding the problems going on in Washington. According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, he says he will try not to be too vocal from now on:

“[I] understand it wasn't my role to call out the defensive coaches even though we had a relationship,” Swearinger said. “Me and the coaches, we had a good relationship. You know, I'll keep my mouth shut next time and just keep [my head down] and play football and do what I need to do on the field and let my past do the talking.”

It is difficult to gauge whether or not there is some sarcasm directed at his former team. It is no secret that Washington has its fair share of problems during the 2018 NFL season.

Swearinger was never shy about vocalizing the team's shortcomings. Unfortunately, his criticism of the coaching staff seemed to be the last straw.

He has since subsequently been claimed by the Arizona Cardinals. It is safe to assume that he will try to be more patient in Arizona than he was in Washington. Some may mistake his personality for being a bit boisterous, however, it is clear that his complaints come from a place of concern. Swearinger is a true competitor that wants to win at all costs. This could pay huge dividends for the Cardinals amidst their current rebuild.
