It wasn’t long ago when the Arizona Cardinals, under head coach Bruce Arians, were among the serious Super Bowl contenders. Now under a new head coach in Steve Wilks, the Cards have seemingly fallen off a cliff, as they are only 1-5 to start the 2018 NFL season.

Prior to Thursday Night Football matchup with the Denver Broncos, the lowly Cardinals even got a dose of trash talk from Broncos linebacker Von Miller, who promised to “kick” Arizona’s ass. Of course, it reached the ears of Wilks, who decided not to add fuel to whatever fire Miller was trying to start when asked about it, per Steve Taranto of 247 Sports.

“If we need that to get us motivated to play a football game being 1-5 right now, we're in trouble,” said Wilks. “I really don't take a lot into what he said.”

Not getting coaxed into a war of words with Miller is just the right move for Steve Wilks. The last thing Arizona needs right now is a side distraction, let alone one involving its head coach. The talking for the Cardinals should be through their actions on the field if they want to right their ship before their situation gets irreversible.

A win over the Broncos at home should be a nice form of rebuttal for Wilks and the Cardinals, though.
