Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray generated plenty of hype in his preseason debut thanks to his status as the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The rookie obliged by showing plenty of promise in his lone drive against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Although the sample size was small, the rookie certainly made the most of his limited snaps. According to Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, head coach Kliff Kingsbury indicated that Murray should see more playing time against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.

“We'll see how the game's going, but definitely more than one drive,” Kingsbury said.

Murray finished his debut having completed 6-of-7 passes for 44 yards. While surpassing the 11 snaps he played against Oakland may not be much of a tall order, it remains to be seen just exactly how much more time he will see. Although Arizona is happy to see him finding his footing, their primary concern is ensuring his health for the start of the 2019 NFL season.

The Cardinals have watered their scheme on offense down for the preseason. The vanilla offense does little to get Murray acquainted with their actual approach, however, he does not seem to mind withholding some of their looks for the regular season.

The Raiders proved to be stout in their preseason debut against the backup offense for the Los Angeles Rams after holding them to just three points and 190 yards of total offense. It will be interesting to see how Murray fares in his increased role this week.
