After three full season as the manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, Mike Shildt is out the door, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The move comes after the Cardinals got red-hot in September, winning 17 straight games to punch a ticket to the postseason with the second-wild card spot in the National League. St. Louis would go on to lose that one game, winner-take-all contest to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a walk-off home run from Chris Taylor.

Shildt took over in the 2018 season on an interim bases after the Cardinals fired then manager Mike Matheny. St. Louis would go 41-28 the rest of the way that year under Shildt.

In 2019, after being named the manager and ripping off the interim tag, St. Louis went 91-71 and advanced all the way to the NLCS before losing to the eventual World Series champions in the Washington Nationals.

The Cardinals went right back to the playoffs in the shortened 2020 season under Shildt and were eliminated in the NLDS by the San Diego Padres.

Despite never having a losing record as manager of the Cardinals and consistently getting the franchise to the playoffs, it wasn't enough in the eyes of the St. Louis brass and now they will be making a change.

Shildt finished with a 252-199 record as the skipper of the Cardinals over that four year stretch in St. Louis.
