Patrick Peterson has spent his entire nine-year NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, but with just one year remaining on his contract after this season, his tenure with the club could be coming to a close.

That being said, the cornerback seems open to eventually re-signing with the only team he has ever known, and while he says he and the Cardinals have not held any contact talks yet, he would not mind if the two sides sat down to have discussions:

“I mean, I’m always up for contract negotiations. But no talks have happened just yet,” said Patrick Peterson, according to Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic. “I’m just looking forward to finishing the season off strong.”

So, is Peterson setting a self-imposed deadline for an extension?

“I mean, not necessarily because at the end of the day, all I can do is control what I can control,” he said. “When that time presents itself, I’ll be ready. But at the end of the day, I have to make sure I’m playing the best football that I can so those talks can happen and I can get what I deserve.”

And he deserves quite a bit.

Since entering the NFL as a No. 5 overall pick out of LSU back in 2011, Peterson has made the Pro Bowl every season, also notching three First-Team All-Pro selections in the process.

In addition, from 2011 through 2018, Peterson never missed a game. It wasn't until this season, when Peterson was hit with a six-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy, he missed any time at all.

The 30-year-old is set to earn $12.05 million in 2020.
