The St. Louis Cardinals have avoided an arbitration hearing with outfielder Harrison Bader.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Cardinals and Bader came to terms on a two-year extension deal that will cover his “final two years of arbitration.”

Rosenthal further adds that Bader is now set to earn $4.7 million for the 2022 and 2023 seasons respectively, and he will receive a $1 million signing bonus. He will have the chance to earn up to $6.95 million in the 2023 season, as there is a total of $2.25 million up for grabs in on-field incentives.

More so, Bader's new deal includes award-based bonuses, such as for top 10 finishes in the National League MVP Award.

In late March, the Cardinals signed five of their seven salary arbitration-eligible players to contracts for the 2022 season. A $600,000 difference ended up separating Bader and the Cardinals in such talks, as the outfielder filed at $4.8 million while team officials offered $4.2 million.

After striking a deal on a new contract, Bader is now set to hit free agency after the 2023 season. And overall, Tyler O’Neil is now the lone arbitration-eligible talent still without a set salary for the upcoming campaign.

Bader emerged as the Cardinals’ go-to starter at center field in the 2021 season. He led the team in starts out at center field with 101. More so, he posted career highs across the board over the campaign, including in home runs (16) and OPS (.785).

Bader is once again set to take hold of center field for the Cardinals in the 2022 campaign, while O’Neil and Dylan Carlson are slated to slot into the left and right field positions respectively.
