The Arizona Cardinals have had a lot of problems this season, but head coach Steve Wilks named one powerful influencer. The Cardinals are 1-4 after receiving their first win against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5. Their defense looked outstanding, but their offense could still use some work. Wilks wants his team to overcome inconsistencies to improve.

“Again, inconsistencies,” Wilks told the Associated Press. “When you look across the board, it’s not just one guy. Everybody’s taking their turn at making that one mistake, which is really costing us as far as having a big play here or there, whether it’s a drop by a receiver, a lineman not executing their block, a running back not hitting the right hole, whatever it may be.”

As the preseason came to a close, the Cardinals' defense looked like one of the NFL's best. They were swimming in turnovers and terrorized apposing offenses. However, their success hasn't translated to regular season play. The Cardinals are giving up 22.4 points per game, which ranks them 12th in the NFL.

Offensively, the team still hasn't been able to find any real rhythm. They don't have a dependable go-to-guy. While they want to find better ways to incorporate David Johnson, they haven't done it yet. Having an identity will be essential for the Cardinals when it comes to stringing together a few wins.

Once the Cardinals' players are able to settle into their roles, they'll look like a more complete football team. A quarterback change will take some getting used to, but it might be the adjustment the team needed to get back on track. Steve Wilks is in his first year as a head coach, and he'll have a few kinks to iron out with his new team.
