The Arizona Cardinals are planning to part ways with Steve Wilks after a rough first season as the team's head coach, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Wilks took over for Bruce Arians as the Cardinals' head coach, coming over from the Carolina Panthers after spending six years in their organization.

Arizona currently owns a record of just 3-11 on the season and will miss the playoffs for the third straight year. Over those three seasons, the Cardinals have gone just 18-27-1.

This recent poor stretch comes after Arizona made back-to-back postseason appearances in 2014 and 2015, including a 13-win campaign that resulted in a trip to the NFC Championship Game in the latter year.

Playoff appearances have been hard to come by for the Cardinals, as they have qualified for the postseason just five times since 1983. They reached their high point during the 2008-09 campaign, when they made it all the way to the Super Bowl and fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cardinals have hardly looked competitive at any point this season. They began the year 0-4, including a 34-0 shutout loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.

By Week 8, Arizona was 2-6, but the Cards then proceeded to lose three straight to drop to 2-9.

Last week, the Cardinals were obliterated by the Atlanta Falcons to the tune of 40-14, marking the third time Arizona's defense had given up 40 points this season.

Obviously, the Cardinals' front office is beginning to lose patience.

Arizona will host the Rams on Sunday before wrapping up its regular season on the road against the Seattle Seahawks next week.
