The Arizona Cardinals got straight-up embarrassed on their home field today. A historic season debut from Cam Newton propelled the Carolina Panthers to a 34-10 victory as the Cardinals sorely missed star quarterback Kyler Murray, who was out with a sprained ankle. Backup quarterback Colt McCoy couldn't get it going and the Cardinals only mustered up 65 total rushing yards.

According to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, Murray has made good progress and that, if he keeps doing so, he'll be able to start in Arizona's next game.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Murray is “making good progress” as he recovers from the ankle injury. Another source says there’s a good chance Murray will play in Week 11.

It all depends on whether Murray continues to make progress. The other question is that, with the team’s bye coming in Week 12, it could make sense to give Murray another week off, allowing him to have three more weeks off until the Cardinals return to one of their former homes to face the Bears.

Getting Murray back to face the in-division rival Seattle Seahawks in Week 11 would be hugely important for the Cardinals. With the Los Angeles Rams right behind them in the NFC West, they'll need to keep their place ahead of them. The Rams and Green Bay Packers are right on the Cardinals' heels in the chase for the top seed in the conference.
