St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado put the finishing touches on his team’s 7-5 home win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday with a solo home run in the seventh inning. The keen home run provided the Cardinals with a two-run cushion, which ended up being more than enough for reliever Ryan Helsley to go on and close out the victory.

This home run from Arenado was not just another one in his All-Star career; he logged his 275th home run in this plate appearance, which put him in historic company.

Arenado became just the fourth third baseman in MLB history to record at least 275 home runs in their opening 10 seasons, joining Eddie Mathews, Mike Schmidt, and Troy Glaus on this exclusive list.

It is always impressive for any player to be on a statistical list alongside multiple Hall of Famers, and more so, it is quite noteworthy that the likes of Adrian Beltre and George Brett did not achieve this feat over their storied careers. Beltre tallied a combined 217 home runs in his first 10 campaigns with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners, while the former Kansas City Royals third baseman logged 125 dingers in his such seasons.

Arenado is off to a potent start to his 2022 season, which includes posting a .368 batting average to go along with recording six home runs through 20 games played.

The 2022 campaign may be mere weeks old, but the veteran third baseman sure is making a strong case to be an early contender for this year’s National League MVP Award.
