Carlos Hyde seeks a division crown. The Houston Texans currently stand alone in first place in the AFC South after defeating the rival Tennessee Titans in Nashville. Thanks to the team's momentous victory in “Music City” in Week 15, the Texans now own a favorable path to an AFC South title.

A large part of the team's success both this past Sunday and throughout the 2019-20 regular season has been veteran running back Carlos Hyde, who is currently in the midst of a career season despite joining the Texans a little later in the offseason. In the midst of his first season as a member of the Texans, Hyde was originally acquired by the surging AFC South franchise by way of a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs just ahead of the start of the 2019-20 regular season.

Leading to the decision to take a chance on Hyde, the Texans lost another veteran running back in Lamar Miller to a season-ending injury prior to the start of the regular season. Adding former Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson as well, Hyde and Johnson have since created an impactful one-two punch in Houston — though the former ultimately asserted himself as the No. 1 rusher in the Texans backfield.

Although impressing over the course of the entire campaign to date, the highlight of Hyde's year truly came on Sunday afternoon against the aforementioned Titans. Upon scampering into the end zone for what would eventually become the game-winning touchdown in Week 15, Hyde surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career.

“It's huge to go for 1K for the first time,” Hyde said after his memorable performance on Sunday in Tennessee, via Sports Illustrated. “It's been a long journey for me, and to come back and have a big year like I'm having now is huge. I got to give thanks to my offensive line, though. I wouldn't have 1,000 yards without those guys. Everybody has played a part in it, and I am very grateful for those guys.”

While there is no question that the Texans have a potentially lethal passing attack under the direction of quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller V, Houston now has a significant rushing attack as well. Not only that, but Hyde's presence and success thus far only makes the Texans passing attack more deadly. It is also worth noting that Hyde has made Watson's legs that much more of a threat as the Texans currently have a slew of options on the offensive side of the football — which obviously bodes extremely well for this AFC South franchise while proving to be incredibly scary for their upcoming opponents.

Hyde and the red-hot Texans are now a stellar 9-5 on the season with the inconsistent yet dangerous Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Titans remaining on the schedule. After traveling to Tampa Bay in Week 16, the Texans will host the Titans come Week 17 as reaching the playoffs continues to loom large in Houston.
