The San Francisco Giants made the NL West race a bit more intriguing on Sunday, as they clinched a three-game series sweep over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As was the case in the opening two games of the series, the Giants relied upon their pitching staff to lead the way. Carlos Rodon guided the reigning NL West champions on the mound, recording eight strikeouts over six shutout innings. The Dodgers were able to create a bit of traffic on the base paths, but the Giants held them to a lowly 0-10 with runners in scoring position.

Speaking after the 2-0 win, Rodon provided a simple reaction on just what this home sweep against the Dodgers means for his team at this stage in the campaign.

“That turns it around for us a little bit,” Rodon said.

Over the first two months of the season, it seemed as if the Dodgers and San Diego Padres were going to battle it out in the NL West for the remainder of the year. However, the Giants are right back in the thick of the division race, sitting in third place in the standings and at a mere 3.5 games back of the Dodgers.

For now, the Giants will have a golden opportunity to inch closer to reaching the Dodgers over the coming week, as they will have a combined six contests against the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates up next.
