The Boston Celtics have signed head coach Brad Stevens to a contract extension, the team announced in a press release.

Stevens has been with the Celtics since 2013. Several members of Celtics management made statements:

“Brad Stevens is an accomplished coach and an outstanding person,” said Celtics Lead Owner and Governor Wyc Grousbeck. “We are proud to have him lead our team forward in our quest for Banner 18.”

“We are thrilled that Brad Stevens will continue to be our coach,” said Celtics Co-Owner Steve Pagliuca. “He has become one of the best coaches in the NBA, and is a real leader on and off the court. This is a great day for the Boston Celtics.”

“Brad Stevens is one of the most intelligent and hard-working coaches in the game today,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “More importantly, his character and integrity have contributed to a culture that we all highly value here. Brad is a great teammate, and a leader people want to follow. We are honored to have him with us as we continue to pursue our next championship.”

Stevens is 318-245 with the Celtics in the regular season. He has guided the club to the playoffs now six times after Boston clinched a spot this 2019-20 season.

Not many thought Stevens would have success in the NBA after a stellar run in college at Butler. After losing 57 games during his rookie season, Stevens hasn't lost more than 42 games in a season and has finished above .500 five years in a row.

Once the 2020 playoffs start, the Celtics will look to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in the Stevens era.
