Athletes from all level of sports harbor stories of embarrassing plays. Most try to keep their mishaps from surfacing, but Boston Celtics forward Daniel Theis is embracing his moment of oversight.

The Celtics welcomed the Philadelphia 76ers to TD Garden on Christmas. Thanks to a Herculean effort from Kyrie Irving, Boston managed to carry the day in overtime, 121-114.

With just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Celtics made their way down the floor in transition. Marcus Smart dished the rock in Irving's direction, but Theis, who wasn't paying attention, stepped in front of the pass. As a result, the ball bounced right off of his back.

Irving saw what was unfolding and took quick action. Surprisingly, Uncle Drew managed to corral the loose ball, dribble around an impromptu screen that was set, then knock down a 3-pointer.

Theis, who finished Tuesday's game with six points, seven rebounds and two assists, later joked about the off-the-back pass:

Irving had an outstanding game against the Sixers. In his 40 minutes of playing time, the former No. 1 overall pick racked up 40 points on 17-of-33 shooting from the field (5-of-10 from beyond the arc), 10 rebounds, three assists and one steal. And just for the record, he had 16 points and five rebounds in the first quarter.

The Celtics (20-13 and third in the Atlantic Division standings) will be back in action on Thursday night, when they'll travel to Houston for a matchup against the Rockets. Tip-off inside the Toyota Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
