During Wednesday's “all hands” meeting to discuss the Milwaukee Bucks' decision not to take the court, Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown came to the Bucks' defense after other players raised an issue with Milwaukee for acting independently.

The push back reportedly caused veteran Bucks wing Kyle Korver to offer an apology on behalf of his team, leading Brown to voice his support (via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN).

The fourth-year Celtics swingman addressed the media ahead of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals on Saturday between Boston and the Toronto Raptors, and he commended the Bucks for their proactiveness.

“We all saw the awareness that was raised so, to be honest, I think in hindsight we will appreciate what Milwaukee did,” Brown said, via NBC Sports Boston. “There’s a lot of guys that came down here for reasons other than basketball, and to use our platforms. Milwaukee did exactly that and, if necessary. it could be done again. Hopefully that won’t be the case but using our platform is why a lot of guys came down here.”

The Bucks' decision not to play after Jacob Blake's shooting sparked similar actions across the sports world in an effort to use player leverage to ignite palpable change.

Brown applauded the work by the NBA and its players, but he noted that “people are still getting killed in the street, and the climate of America is still the same. But, once again, I commend what the Milwaukee Bucks did…we’re going to appreciate Milwaukee for doing that.”

At 23, Brown has emerged as a leading voice and activist on social issues among the NBA community. In the wake of George Floyd's killing, he drove from Boston to his home state of Georgia to lead Black Lives Matter demonstrations.
