It's good to be a Boston Celtics fan right now. The Celtics earned a dramatic Game 1 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of their 2022 NBA Playoff series with the Brooklyn Nets on a game-winner from star forward Jayson Tatum. Then, the franchise received some recognition for one of their most unheralded players, guard Marcus Smart, who secured the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. Some of the first to react to the news were Smart's Celtics' teammates, Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who shared their thoughts on Twitter.

Tatum and Brown were clearly very excited for their teammate. The two Celtics stars praised Smart for his โ€œlegendary' achievement.

Tatum and Brown clearly recognize how important Smart is to the Celtics' success. They also know, as Tatum noted, just how rare of a feat it is for a guard like Smart to win the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award.

Gary Payton, the Hall of Fame guard, was the last at his position to secure the Defensive Player of the Year award. Now, Smart joins the list. Not only that, but the talented guard made a piece of franchise history, joining Kevin Garnett as the only Boston players to win the award.

In other words, Tatum and Brown have every reason to be excited for Smart. And Celtics fans have every reason to get excited about this team.
