Boston Celtics swingman Jayson Tatum notched his career-high in scoring in the team's convincing 119-93 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday at the TD Garden. The 21-year-old Duke product sizzled with 39 points on 15-for-29 shooting (51.7 percent) from the field and 4-of-9 from three (44. percent) in 35 minutes of play. He also had 12 boards, two assists, three steals and one block. Celtics' starting point guard Kemba Walker, who was facing his former team, was in awe of the youngster's performance and claimed that there are more to come in the future.

“That’s what he do. He’s a scorer,” he described Tatum's scoring outburst, per ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

“Its early. Nobody’s seen nothing yet … he’s a future All-Star in this league,” Walker, who pitched in 23 points and four dimes, added.

After a spectacular showing in his rookie year particularly in playoffs where he averaged 18.5 points, fans and pundits alike were expecting Tatum to blossom into an All-Star in his sophomore season last year. Tatum's game did not regress, but he didn't make much of a leap either, with some criticizing him for embracing a slower and perimeter-oriented game rather than the league's norm of focus on pace and space.

Kyrie Irving dominated most of Boston's possessions last year, leaving few touches on offense for the talented two-way wing. With Walker now steering the point, Tatum seems to finally be meeting expectations, upping his scoring average significantly from 15.7 to 21.6 this season.

Tatum is also getting it done on other facets, norming 7.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals. He has conspired with teammate Jaylen Brown to form a formidable duo at the wing position.

The Celtics are currently second in the East with a 20-7 slate. If he keeps this up, expect to see Tatum as one of the All-Stars in Chicago come February.
