Kyrie Irving just won't get off this whole flat-earth theory.

In an appearance on JJ Redick's podcast for the Ringer Podcast Network, Irving and Redick discussed a host of topics. Early on, the conversation turned to conspiracy theories, and of course, the two discussed Irving's widely panned idea that the Earth all humans live on is not round, but flat — an idea refuted by practically the entire scientific community.

What was most revealing about the exchange, however, was the moment Irving crystalized his ideas on the subject. He revealed to Redick that he first started thinking the Earth was flat after doing research on Instagram, per Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie.

Irving's quotes are just plain hysterical. His main reasoning for touting this theory at all was because he said he wanted to challenge people to think for themselves and to not just accept information that people feed to you.

That idea is a noble one, and one that not many people will argue with. But Irving himself initially got his information from a social media application, which immediately calls into question his “independent research” methods. He couldn't have found other sources of information that led him to think differently?

It's still highly probable that Irving is just trolling all of us because at this point, he has taken this whole thing to a certain point and it would be pointless to stop now and walk back his comments. But the more he says it in interview after interview, it's beginning to become worrisome that Irving thinks these things.
