If the Boston Celtics are going to flip the switch once the playoffs start, Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving says the team needs “more focus and discipline.”

The Celtics' season hasn't gone as everyone thought it would. After Boston reached the Eastern Conference finals last year and LeBron James bolted out to join the Los Angeles Lakers, the general consensus is that the Beantown team will finally take over.

However, that hasn't exactly been the case, as they have been up and down all season long. The Celtics are fifth in the Eastern Conference, behind the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers.

The team seems to have found their stride in their recent games, but according to Kyrie Irving, that is not yet their playoff mindset and that they need more work to achieve that level of basketball they want.

“We need more focus and discipline in order for that switch to be turned on,” said Irving, via Chris Forsberg of NBA Sports Boston. “So, we have yet to figure out what that switch is for us going into the postseason, but that’s why we have 11 games left.

“I think that the best thing we had going in that aspect is experience. So, like, the switch — we know what that switch is. This team doesn’t yet. The best thing for us is experience. So, guys have a year of experience and I think we’ve given ourselves too much credit. What that switch is, championship-level basketball, only a few people know what that switch is. It takes time to develop it, it takes experience with each other. And we’ve tried to make up as much ground in the last year and a half as we could.”

The Celtics definitely have the talent to flip the switch once the playoffs start.

Only time will tell, though, if they can actually do it.
