Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics believes that his role as a leader for Team USA boosts his confidence.

In an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio, as transcribed by Yahoo Sports' Keith Smith, Smart shared his thoughts on being seen as one of the leaders of the Team USA squad. Smart noted that he's had this role in Boston so the experience is definitely teaching him more lessons on how to embrace it fully.

“Being seen as a leader here (with Team USA) is big. I think I've been a leader for a while, but this just keep growing my skills as a leader and gives me more confidence. It's good for me.”

Smart, who's entering his sixth year in the league, has slowly risen into one of the Celtics' key pillars. Earlier in his career, Smart was known for his tenacity on both ends of the floor — the player in the court who's ready to give up his body for a win.

But for the past few years, Marcus Smart has developed into a great defender — having been selected into the All-NBA First Team last year. He also added a reliable 3-point shot to his arsenal. Last season, he shot a 36.4 percent from 3-point country and 42.2 percent from the field — both of which are career-highs.

Indeed, Marcus Smart is slowly rising up to the ranks. He's not just seen as a hustle-player but someone who serves as the team's heart and motivator. Celtics fans should expect to see a new and improved player after his stint with the national team.
