Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving made waves when he intentionally stepped on the Boston Celtics logo at TD Garden after the Nets' resounding Game 4 victory put them one win away from the second round. There was a lot of outrage, with Celtics legend Kevin Garnett just one of many to express his disdain for Kyrie's move.
Well, Richard Jefferson isn't having any of KG's act. Jefferson took to Twitter to call out Garnett for having the audacity to rip Irving after all the “disrespectful” things he did during his Hall of Fame career.
Garnett is known as one of the most aggressive and brutal trash talkers in NBA history. He called Charlie Villanueva a “cancer patient” and made the infamous “Honey Nut Cheerios” comment about La La Anthony, among many other vicious things.
Because of this, Jefferson doesn't think Garnett has a leg to stand on when it comes to criticism of Irving for stepping on the Celtics logo. The whole saga is pretty ridiculous to begin with, though it was taken to a whole new level when a fan threw a water bottle at Kyrie.
Things didn't end well between Irving and the Celtics, and he was clearly trying to send a message with his actions. Were they childish and classless? Maybe a bit, but it's totally harmless and not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. But it's no surprise Celtics supporters are getting mad about it.
Irving and the Nets will try to get the last laugh by eliminating Boston in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. The Nets are up 3-1 in the series after winning Game 4 by 15 points, 141-126. Irving bounced back from a sluggish Game 3 to pour in 39 points. Kevin Durant led the way with 42 points.
