The Boston Celtics are unlikely to keep an eye on former star Isaiah Thomas, who will hit the market once again after a brief stint with the Denver Nuggets.
According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, the 5-foot-9 dynamo is not part of Boston's plans as free agency approaches, despite Thomas' openness to return to the city of Boston.
The two sides had an ugly breakup in 2017, as the shifty guard ranked third in the scoring charts of the 2016-17 season and was forced to prematurely end his postseason after suffering a hip injury.
Two years later, the Washington product has yet to show signs of his former self, clearly lacking the explosion and lateral movement that made him such a tough player to guard.
In these last two seasons, Thomas was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but only lasted 15 games with them after recovering from hip surgery. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played a role off the bench, getting only one start in 17 games while averaging 15.6 points and 5.0 assists per game.
After the Lakers did not aim to re-sign him, he linked up with Michael Malone with the Denver Nuggets, but was out of action for most of the season after undergoing a second hip procedure.
He made only 12 appearances last season in limited minutes (15.1 per game), as Malone decided it was best to keep him out of the rotation.
Thomas has had a crushing fall from grace since averaging 28.9 points per game in 2016-17, playing in only 44 games in the last two seasons and fetching no more than the minimum on the open market after several questions about his health.
