In the midst of rumors surrounding New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis and the wave of circumstances involving his trade scenarios, having him go to the Boston Celtics as insurance for Kyrie Irving to stay has been one of the sneaky storylines that popped up in recent days.

According to Steve Bulpett of The Boston Herald, even if the Celtics were unable to get Davis in the summer, his plans are still to opt-out of his contract and re-sign for a much larger amount with Boston.

More recently, rumors of a potential Irving reunion with LeBron James swarmed as a possibility if the Los Angeles Lakers are unable to acquire Davis, but that was too far of a reach in terms of reality.

Executives in touch with Bulpett even laughed at the notion that Irving could leave, noting those storylines were in the best interest of other teams, but far from reality.

There isn't much doubt that Davis' trade request going public on Monday was meant to give the Lakers a small window of opportunity to pitch the Pelicans into trading Davis, knowing full well the Celtics possess way better assets all around that could trump any card they hope to pull out close to the Feb. 7 trade deadline.

One thing is sure, whether Boston acquires Davis over the summer or not, Kyrie Irving is staying put and true to his promise to remain with the franchise for the long term, already having invested a year-and-change into his tenure.
