Chael Sonnen is one of the many people that sees Khamzat Chimaev as having massive potential. The UFC welterweight appears to be set to fight Gilbert Burns and the sky is the limit in terms of what he can achieve in the organization.

Chael Sonnen recently spoke out about the fight on his YouTube Channel and has a bonkers theory on what a win would do for Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC. Timing appears to be a very important factor for whatever happens next and it's clear everyone wants to push the Swedish fighter.

“If you can beat Gilbert Burns, which nobody not named Kamaru Usman has been able to do in four years, if you can beat Gilbert Burns, you’re probably fighting for the world title. Let’s say you don’t – let’s say Chimaev beats Burns but he doesn’t get a fight for the world title, because we’re locked into this ‘four fight’ number [used by Dana White], this 15-month number, who does he fight next? That brings us back to the same problem we’re in now, only it shortens the pool.”

Chael Sonnen is most likely right that the UFC will be looking to give Khamzat Chimaev a title shot should he get past Gilbert Burns. The Russian-born Swede has star-making ability and many will expect him to reach his potential quickly.

The fight between Khamzat Chimaev is not official yet and is waiting for an official announcement before it can become official. It will be interesting to see what the UFC chooses to do with the winner of the fight.
