After securing a win last week, the Los Angeles Chargers hit another road bump as they fell to the Minnesota Vikings in a 27-20 loss in Week 10. It was certainly not a good day for Brandon Staley and his squad as they failed to keep up with their opponent, especially in the latter half of the game.

With the tough defeat, the Chargers fell to a 5-4 record but still maintained the second spot in a tight AFC West. It will surely be a long week ahead for them as they try to regroup and bounce back when they host the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers for Week 11 action.

Here are three takeaways from the Chargers' most recent loss to the Vikings.

Los Angeles Chargers Week 10 takeaways vs. Vikings

3. The Chargers' secondary struggled

The team's top safety in Derwin James may have tallied nine total tackles, but he still had some notable errors on defense against the Vikings. Aside from him, cornerback Tevaughn Campbell had a game to forget as he was torched whenever he was matched up with opposing receiver Justin Jefferson during the contest.

Due to the mismatch, the LSU product had his way all game long, producing 143 yards on nine receptions against the Chargers. Former Pro Bowl cornerback Chris Harris Jr. didn't get to impact the game as much as well along with safety Alohi Gilman, who had a crucial error that resulted in a touchdown by Minnesota.

Certainly enough, the absence of both Nasir Adderley and Michael Davis hurt the Chargers' ability to contain the opposing offense. Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley will definitely want both of his men back in order to bring the secondary defense back to its feet after a poor showing in Week 10.

2. LA's running game was not effective

Against the Vikings, the Chargers didn't get to maximize their running game as RB1 Austin Ekeler only had 11 carries for 44 yards. QB Justin Herbert did rush for 22 yards and Larry Rountree III contributed a score on 10 yards and five carries.

However, the Chargers' rushing attack is still nowhere near where they want it to be. It was also evident how the absence of RB Justin Jackson had a huge impact on the team's backfield unit.

Due to their struggles on the ground, Herbert was forced to rely on the passing game, but it didn't help their losing cause as well. Certainly enough, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi will need to find a way to make the team's rushing game remain effective, especially in matchups against good defensive teams like the Vikings moving forward.

1. It was simply not Justin Herbert's day

There is no denying that Justin Herbert has been showing plenty of promise in the 2021 season. However, even talented players struggle from time to time, and Week 10 was simply not a good day for the 23-year-old playmaker.

Herbert didn't get enough breathing room in the pocket as he was disrupted by opposing linebacker Eric Kendricks, who recorded a sack and an interception against him. Additionally, opposing safety Camryn Bynum produced a sack of his own against the gunslinger as well.

Due to the Vikings' stifling defense, Herbert was merely limited to 20-of-34 passes completed for 195 yards and a passing TD to go along with the one interception. Without a doubt, the quarterback's struggles and failure to attack downfield was a major factor as to why the Chargers lost their Week 10 matchup.

After having a shaky performance against the Vikings, the former Offensive Rookie of the Year must aim to have a better outing and be more efficient when he faces another good defensive team in the Steelers next weekend.
