The Los Angeles Chargers have jumped out to a slow start to the 2019 season. They're 1-2 but have done so without star running back Melvin Gordon.

Now Gordon's holdout is over. Head coach Anthony Lynn told Albert Breer of SI.com that they're a better team with him on the field.

Chalk this down as unsurprising. Yes, Austin Ekeler has been amazing so far – but don't forget just how dynamic Gordon can be.

Last season, the Chargers went 12-4. That should tell you just how vital Gordon is to their success.

Sure, it's a new year. However, you can't overlook the fact that the Chargers have already picked up half their losses from all of last year in just three games. And they've done so with Gordon not suiting up.

It's unlikely that Gordon will get a ton of play this week. Los Angeles will likely want to ease him back in a little bit. They have the luxury of doing so thanks to Ekeler's incredible talent.

Even once Gordon is fully integrated back into the offense, it's likely Ekeler will steal some of his time. The running back has proven he's a fantastic talent who can help an offense succeed. Los Angeles will probably use both running backs to keep them fresh.

Either way, we'll get to see the Chargers offense with Gordon inserted into it again soon enough. When that happens, it will be blatantly obvious that Lynn was telling the truth when he said Los Angeles is a better team with him on the field.
