The Los Angeles Chargers may be out of the playoff picture, but there is an extremely bright spot on offense. The team's 2020 first-round pick, Justin Herbert, has been absolutely phenomenal in his rookie campaign.

The Oregon alumni has shown not only his competency at the quarterback position, but also his ability to make an impact and move the ball on offense. Herbert has a huge arm and loves to make big plays downfield. Despite scouts being critical of his accuracy, Herbert has a 66.5 percent complete percentage and has dramatically improved in the short and medium passing game.

Early in Week 16, Herbert threw his 28th passing touchdown of the year to Chargers RB Austin Ekeler to take a 10-0 lead over the Denver Broncos.

Why is that significant?

With that touchdown, Herbert has set a new record for passing touchdowns in a season for a rookie.

This shouldn't be surprising seeing how impressive Herbert has been in 2020. The cerebral QB has done a great job reading defenses for the Chargers this season and has even showcased his mobility. He has excellent escapability and can be an impact guy with his legs.

At 6-foot-6 and 236 pounds, Justin Herbert is one of the biggest qb's in the league. His large stature and pocket presence resembles Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. That's not to say that Herbert will become the next Josh Allen, but the potential is definitely there for the young Chargers signal-caller.

Even though the Chargers' season has been one filled with heartbreak and disappointment, Herbert is the light at the end of the tunnel. With Week 17 on the horizon, Herbert can finish his rookie season with 30-plus touchdowns.

Fans are witnessing the next special player in LA.
