Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is just in his second year in the NFL, and he could soon be on the verge of breaking one notable team record.

Herbert set a multitude of records in his rookie campaign with the Chargers. For one, he tallied up an astounding 31 passing touchdowns, which set a new record for the most such touchdowns in a single season by a rookie quarterback. However, this figure fell four short of breaking Philip Rivers' team record of 34 touchdown passes, which he recorded over the 2008 season.

Still, Herbert could soon break the record for the most passing touchdowns in a season in Chargers franchise history. The former Oregon Ducks star has so far totaled for 27 touchdown passes in 12 games this year.

The Chargers do only have a mere five games remaining on their schedule this season, but Herbert does have what it takes to amount to eight touchdown passes over these upcoming contests.

In the big picture, Herbert sure is aiming to lead the Chargers back to the playoffs, but he has a mountain to climb for this possible feat. While they currently hold the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture, a mere one game separates them and the No. 12 seed Denver Broncos.

For now, Herbert and company will face a critical test in Week 14 against the New York Giants.
