Former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is wealthy enough to purchase multiple NFL teams if he wishes to do so. That dream may soon turn to reality, as the richest man in the world could reportedly soon be the owner of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Per a report from Nathan Finnio of the Los Angeles Times, the sister of the Chargers' current controlling owner Dean Spanos has filed for a petition for forced sale of the LA-based football team. Sure enough, Bezos' name has been cited in the petition as a potential buyer of the team.

“The petition noted reports that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, worth an estimated $180 billion, is interested in becoming an NFL owner and said ‘the Chargers could be a perfect opportunity,” the report said.

The 156-page court filing notes that the Spanos family faces mounting debts due to the maintenance of keeping the team, and the only rational solution would be to put the NFL franchise on the market.

Bezos, the richest man on the face of the Earth, would definitely be the answer to their problems if he could take the Chargers off their hands. It's also the perfect opportunity for the Amazon founder, considering he'll be inheriting a struggling team in a big market and the opportunity to turn its fortunes around.

The Chargers, of course, are overshadowed by their more successful crosstown rivals Los Angeles Rams. They finished with a 7-9 win-loss slate last season and missed the playoffs. However, they do have a potential superstar quarterback in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert.
