Kemba Walker is set to become one of the top free agents on the market this summer, but even though he will have a chance to play in a larger market like Los Angeles or New York, Walker says he would actually prefer to remain in Charlotte.

“Oh no question, Charlotte’s definitely my first priority,” said Walker, according to Jared Weiss of The Athletic. “That’s where I’ve been for eight years and that’s all I know. Not many people get a chance to play for one NBA team throughout their career. When I go on my Instagram, I see, ‘Kemba leave! Kemba get out of Charlotte!’ People don’t understand, when they say you need to go ‘here’ and win, that winning is not guaranteed anywhere.”

Walker, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Connecticut, was originally selected by Charlotte with the ninth overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft and has spent his entire NBA career with the Hornets organization.

He is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which he averaged 25.6 points, 5.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 34.9 minutes per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor, 35.6 percent from three-point range and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line, en route to his third straight All-Star appearance.

However, the 29-year-old has made the playoffs just twice while with Charlotte, which has to be frustrating for one of the best point guards in the league.

Walker will surely have other opportunities this summer, but it seems like he is genuinely considering remaining with the only organization he has ever known.
