Chelsea star goalkeeper Edouard Mendy blasts the Ballon d'Or awarding after missing out on a nomination.

The Senegalese keeper joined Chelsea in 2020 yet showcased a tremendous season with the Blues, racking up nine clean sheets on his way to a Champions League trophy. Yet, Mendy missed out on the award's shortlist that featured a ton of great football players.

“It's something that motivates me and pushes me to work. Honestly, I am wondering.”

“If I had played for France and had taken part in the [European Championships], would we have this debate and this reflection?,” the Chelsea keeper stressed.

Like in any other list of awards and recognition, there will always be snubs. Mendy shares that this snub only motivates him to be better.

“Do I think it’s an injustice? No, I wouldn’t use that word.”

“It’s something that motivates me to go forward, to work and be performant at club level and with my country, and as I said after the game with the national team, it’s the journalists’ freedom of vote and expression, and they vote honourably and conscientiously.”

Mendy continues to shine bright for Chelsea as the team is leading the Premier League above massive English clubs. Does Mendy deserve more recognition, especially for the Ballon d'Or award?
