The Chicago Bears‘ Week 16 matchup sees them face off against the Seattle Seahawks in a clash between two of the NFC's biggest disappointments from the 2021 campaign. Bears-Seahawks doesn't feature much to play for outside of pride, but with that in mind, here are some Bears Week 16 predictions.

Matt Nagy's future with the Bears is as clouded as its ever been, and a loss to the 5-9 Seahawks wouldn't improve his sitting for next year. With quarterbacks Justin Fields and Andy Dalton both sidelined for the game, Chicago will roll out Nick Foles at quarterback for his first NFL start since Week 10 of the 2020 season. Foles hasn't made a single appearance for the Bears this year, but will have his hands full on Sunday when he takes over as starting quarterback.

At 4-10, the Bears enter the matchup with the Seahawks as losers of three consecutive games and eight of their last nine games, with their most recent victory coming against the Lions in Week 12. The Seahawks, on the other hand, are coming in off a loss against the Los Angeles Rams, though they had won their previous two matchups against San Francisco and Houston, respectively. While a loss could benefit Chicago in terms of the 2022 NFL Draft, Seattle's first-round pick belongs to the Jets, so they'll be playing for keeps.

With all that in mind, let's dive into Chicago Bears' Week 16 predictions for Sunday's matchup against Pete Carroll's Seahawks.

Chicago Bears Week 16 Predictions

4. Chicago's defense stalls Russell Wilson and Co.

The Bears defense is one of the better units in the NFL, ranking ninth in the league in terms of opponents' yards per game. While the secondary was depleted against the Vikings in Week 15, they somehow limited Kirk Cousins to just 87 passing yards despite being without all four starting DBs. While the Bears haven't made any official indication as to what members of Chicago's secondary will be ready for Sunday, the expectation is that at both Artie Burns and Eddie Jackson will be available. Add in Thomas Graham Jr. who was a force in the secondary in Week 15, and the Bears could be looking at another dominant outing from their defense. While Akiem Hicks hit the shelf with COVID-19, the team is still getting a significant boost in terms of talent returning from the shelf, and that could be a major motivator in shutting down Wilson and the rest of Seattle's aerial attack.

3. David Montgomery bounces back to record 2 TDs, 150 scrimmage yards

David Montgomery hasn't been his usual self ever since returning from IR earlier this season. Montgomery has just one rushing touchdown since returning in Week 9, and has only four on the year. Additionally, Monty hasn't recorded 100 rushing yards in a game since sustaining the injury in Week 4, a feat he accomplished twice in the first four weeks of the campaign. To add on to his woes, Montgomery fumbled for the first time since 2020 during Chicago's Week 15 matchup against the Vikings.

Well, what better time for a bounce back performance than in Week 16 against one of the NFL's most abysmal defensive units? Seattle surrenders an average of 390.4 yards per game, a putrid tally only bested by the lowly New York Jets. Furthermore, their rushing defense ranks in the bottom third of the league, surrendering an average of 116.5 rushing yards per game. This all bodes well for Montgomery who will look to be active in both the rushing and passing game for the Bears this week, and should excel in both areas.

2. Nick Foles puts on a vintage display

Nick Foles' career trajectory is one of the most mind-boggling in NFL history. Having been a backup for most of his career, to winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles and getting massively overpaid by the Jaguars, Foles once again finds himself buried in an NFL depth chart. But with COVID running rampant, he will be the man under center in Week 16, and he'll get the chance to put on a vintage display against one the NFL's most dismal passing defenses. Seattle's passing defense ranks dead last in the NFL, surrendering an average of 273.9 passing yards per game. While they don't give up a ton of points, the Seahawks secondary is frequently getting burnt by opposing quarterbacks. Foles has the chance to add to the misery in Seattle with a statement game on Sunday, one which could show the rest of the league just how much he has left in the tank at age 32.

1. Chicago defeats Seattle by double digits

If the Bears defense can continue to play at a high level, the offense should be able to guide this team to a victory. While Seattle gives up boatloads of yardage, they have allowed surprisingly few points to be scored against them. If Montgomery and Foles can find ways finish out drives with six points on Sunday, the Bears will be in a good position to walk away with a win. Considering their lack of offensive output of late, however, that is easier said than done, but the Bears should be able to work their way down field with ease. If they can punch the ball in for some early touchdowns against the Seahawks, they have the defensive fortitude to maintain the lead throughout.
