Former NFL great Joe Montana thinks that current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes can pretty much be as good as he wants to be in the NFL.

Mahomes has put together an incredible season in Kansas City, which is a big reason why the Chiefs are the No. 1 seed in the AFC heading into this week's matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

And Mahomes' huge season apparently has caught Montana's attention, with the four-time Super Bowl champion offering up a ton of praise to the Chiefs' star.

From Sam Mellinger of The Kansas City Star:

“What happens to a lot of quarterbacks, especially when they’re young, we all make mistakes, right?” Montana said. “He can make up for a lot of things with arm strength. But we all make bad throws, we all throw interceptions, we all drop passes, whatever the position. We all make mistakes. It’s handling those.

“Mentally, if he can handle that, I don’t think there’s an issue. He can be as good as he wants to be.”

It's clear that Mahomes has a special skill set, and that's what Kansas City will be relying on as it tries to make a trip to the Super Bowl.

The Colts have been playing excellent football, and the quarterback showdown between Mahomes and Andrew Luck will be must-see TV.

As for Mahomes' future as one of the best in the NFL, it's easy to understand why Montana and others are handing out so much praise.
