The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to make some serious noise in 2022 after failing to make a Super Bowl last season. However, they could be doing it without a key piece of their offense.

Running back Darrel Williams is set to hit free agency after failing to reach an agreement on an extension with the Chiefs. Via Mike Garofolo:

This is far from ideal for Kansas City. Williams was one of their best backfield weapons in 2021, collecting over 1,000 yards overall while rushing for 558 and six touchdowns. Alongside Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs had a formidable RB duo. Williams was a legitimate threat in the air and on the ground for Patrick Mahomes.

Williams has spent his entire NFL career to this point with the Chiefs, signing as an undrafted free agent out of LSU in 2018. While it has taken him some time to find his footing at the professional level, Williams should attract lots of interest on the open market after such a fantastic campaign. The 27-year-old fully proved this past year that he can contribute at a high level for a contender and fill any role necessary. That will certainly catch the eyes of numerous teams in the league who could always use another versatile back.
