The Kansas City Chiefs had a stressful morning. On FOX NFL Sunday, Jay Glazer reported that seven different members of Chiefs personnel registered false positive COVID-19 tests early on Sunday before playing the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.

“The Chiefs got woken up this morning at 3:30 … with seven positive COVID results,” Glazer said. “Now, it turned out all of them were false positives, but they didn't know this at the time. So, they start doing contact tracing. Contract tracing went out throughout the locker room. Other coaches, as well, they didn't know at the time this morning if they'd have enough coaches to coach in this game later. For the next five hours, they had to start waking guys up, bringing them back in, had to get them re-tested. Turned out, about 8:30, 9:00 this morning, they finally found out that there was actually an issue with the testing at the lab. They were all false positives.”

The 10-1 Chiefs, winners of six games in a row, are slated to face the Denver Broncos (4-7) on Sunday Night Football in Week 13.

As Glazer added, while the false positives is ultimately good news, the early morning is not ideal ahead of a 7:20 p.m. Central time kickoff for the Chiefs.

Unlike many other teams around the league this season, the defending Super Bowl champions have stayed relatively free of the coronavirus. Last month, the Chiefs placed defensive tackle Chris Jones on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

False positives have not been an uncommon occurrence this NFL regular season, as the Chiefs might be aware of. In August, the NFL saw 77 positive tests turn out to be false. In October, four members of the Indianapolis Colts falsely tested positive.
