The Kansas City Chiefs have more losses through five games this year than they did all of last season.

Everyone knows how electric their offense is, with Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce leading the charge. It's their defense that's been continuously leaking all throughout the season, and couldn't have looked worse in Week 5 after giving up 38 points to the Buffalo Bills.

Changes were undoubtedly coming. Ahead of their Week 6 tilt against the Washington Football Team, the Chiefs announced that they would be benching veteran safety Daniel Sorensen for third-year man Juan Thornhill.

Sorenesen's struggles have been glaring to most critics, but Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was vocal that the subpar defense has been beyond just him.

Via Ian Rapoport:

“First of all, it's not about one guy,” said Spagnuolo, in his third season as DC for Kansas City. “To focus on one person, I don't think is fair. Did Dan struggle a bit last week? Yeah. … We take a guy who has a starting position, we think a guy has been doing a good job. Sometimes when you have plays that to the eye of everybody in there look worse than other ones, nobody sees the plays that he's making when you're covering somebody and they don't throw it there. I think Dan's had a lot of good snaps for us.”

It's still early enough for the Kansas City Chiefs to be able to alter the narrative around them this season. But as we approach the midway point of the season, they're starting to run out of time.
