Much of the Kansas City Chiefs' success this season will be driven by Patrick Mahomes. The league's reigning MVP is coming off one of the most dominant seasons of any quarterback in NFL history, and is poised to be better in 2019 by the simple fact that it's only his second season as a starter. Mahomes is arguably already the best player in football, and Kansas City is set up for years of Super Bowl contention as a result.

But just because Mahomes is so unbelievably gifted hardly means his team lacks for offensive talent otherwise, which is why it's all the more important for the Chiefs to have a viable backup behind the league's latest wunderkind. In the wake of veteran second-stringer Chad Henne fracturing his ankle in Saturday night's preseason game, Kansas City has signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore to serve as Mahomes' primary backup, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

With Chad Henne suffering a fractured ankle, the Chiefs are signing former Dolphins’ QB Matt Moore, per source. He now will back up Patrick Mahomes.

Henne signed a two-year contract with Kansas City last offseason. He appeared in just one game in 2018, coming in for Mahomes late after the Chiefs had built an insurmountable lead. The 34-year-old is set to undergo surgery in Green Bay on Tuesday.

Moore, 35, didn't play in the NFL last season after going unsigned in free agency. He last played for the Miami Dolphins, starting four games during the 2017 season in relief of Jay Cutler.
