Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played multiple sports in high school, something his high school coach Adam Cook thinks more players should follow. In the last few years, more players have started to focus on one sport, but that wasn't something Mahomes was ever about.

“Patrick is the poster child for the multisport athlete,” Cook said to Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports.

Mahomes was a standout quarterback at Whitehouse High School but his skills didn't stop there. He also played on the baseball team and was good enough to be selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 MLB draft. He also was a key part of the basketball squad. Cook thinks with Mahomes playing so many sports, it helped him become a better football player, and also gave him more chances to compete, something he loves doing.

“Because he played multiple sports, the overlay of all of those experiences and skills are there in the NFL,” Cook told Wetzel. “It’s all just one game for Patrick. It’s always been just one big game, just on different playing surfaces. In high school football you are guaranteed just 10 games. Instead Patrick was always playing something and learning how to win along the way.”

Mahomes is not only a great quarterback, but he is also a great athlete, and a lot of that has to do with playing other sports during high school.

All eyes are going to be on Patrick Mahomes the next few weeks as he gets ready to play in the Super Bowl, and if the Chiefs are going to win it's going to take a big game from the multi-sport athlete.
