After centering much focus on revamping their wide receiver depth, the Kansas City Chiefs shifted their attention over to the running back position on Saturday. They came to terms with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones II on a one-year deal.

Jones featured in four seasons with the Buccaneers, which included playing a vital role in their Super Bowl 55-winning campaign in the 2020 season. The versatile running back recorded career highs over the season, including in yards from scrimmage (1,143).

After a notable stint in Tampa Bay, Jones, as he explained during his introductory press conference with the Chiefs, aimed to continue playing on a championship-contending team.

“At the end, I just wanted to be in a situation where I have the best chance to compete for that second ring and make my mark on the game,” Jones said.

Jones is slated to tag along with Clyde Edwards-Helaire and lead the Chiefs rush offense. Last season, the likes of Jerick McKinnon and Derrick Gore rose to the occasion and helped to form a balanced offense for Kansas City.

Jones is looking ahead to establishing a potent running back tandem alongside the former LSU star.

“I think it’s going to be a great one-two punch,” Jones said. “He’s very athletic, got a great skill set as well, so it will be great to see him work in person and going in to compete.”

A key season sure awaits both Jones and Edwards-Helaire for the reigning AFC West champions.
