Wide receiver Sammy Watkins is on his third team in three seasons after he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. He didn’t get much of a chance to get a good grasp of his new offense with the Los Angeles Rams after he was traded there from the Buffalo Bills just before the start of the season.

This time around, though, Watkins will have the benefit of time to learn the ins and outs of Kansas City’s offense. While he admits that the Chiefs’ system has been a tough one to learn, he’s been relishing the challenge.

“This offense is the brightest offense that I’ve ever been in,” Watkins said, via Shaun Goodwin the Kansas City Star. “It’s definitely a mental challenge, but I think that’s kind of what gets me up every day and studying plays and coming out here. … Anybody can get the ball, and I’ve got to learn all the positions. I can’t just learn one position.”

Watkins had a pretty underwhelming campaign in what turned out to be his lone year in LA. He finished with just 39 catches for 593 yards in what turned out to be the top offense in the league. Although, his lack of time to get adjusted to that system may have factored into his dip in production.

The Chiefs certainly believe that despite those underwhelming numbers, Watkins was still worth the elite receiver money they gave him this offseason. Watkins does have a good deal of raw talent, and if he can properly inculcate that bright Chiefs offense which transformed into one of the more explosive in the league last season, he could just end up proving them right.
