LOS ANGELES – The LA Clippers cleared quarantine on Friday afternoon and had their first practice of the NBA's Orlando bubble. Although he didn't travel with the team on their flight to Florida on Wednesday, star Kawhi Leonard is expected to re-join the team on Friday night, per head coach Doc Rivers.

“Kawhi is on his way and should arrive sometime this evening,” Rivers told members of the media on Friday.

Both Landry Shamet and JaMychal Green aren't too far behind, expected to re-join the team sometime in the next few days as well. All three will need to quarantine in their hotel rooms for several days and test negative for the coronavirus before they'll be allowed to wander about the campus.

Friday will mark the first time the team will do any sort of in-person group workouts, and Rivers says he's yet to see how his players look.

“I haven't seen any of them yet as far as playing basketball. PG [Paul George], we've seen shooting. He looks great. When you factor in at the beginning of training camp PG couldn't play, he wasn't healthy, now in this second ‘training camp' he'll be 100 percent healthy, I think that's huge for us.”

The Clippers entered the bubble as one of the top contenders for the NBA Championship, and that goal hasn't been lost on them.

“This is not a normal way of starting back. Usually going into training camp, guys have been scrimmaging for three and four weeks, they've been playing, shooting on hoops. That's not happening. This is a group, some of the guys have not touched a basketball or seen a gym until two weeks ago. We got a lot of work to do on both ends.”

Aside from Kawhi Leonard and his knee, Paul George also had his share of injury struggles. George had been dealing with dual shoulder surgeries coming into the season and wasn't able to participate in training camp. He also suffered multiple hamstring strains in the same leg in January and February.

Obviously, it wasn't ideal, but the time off during the hiatus was certainly a positive.

“This time off has given us what we needed,” George told members of the media. “We had some guys that was banged up, nagging injuries. The more time gave us more time for us to aid those injuries and to get back to 100. This team has been faring well with the limited amount of practice time that we've been given already. That doesn't really hurt us. That didn't really bother us in the regular season. I don't think that time off is going to bother us now.

“Again, only thing that it helped with was healing our bodies and just getting us physically ready for this last stretch.”

Every team's journey to the NBA Championship will take a path of its own once the seeding games begin on July 30th. With some teams healthy, some missing players, and the coronavirus rapidly spreading throughout Florida, it's really anybody's game right now.
