Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis was witness to a slew of free agent moves, but none more shocking than the trade that sent Paul George from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the L.A. Clippers, one that came only seconds after the announcement that Kawhi Leonard had chosen to sign with Davis' hallway rival.

The shocking chain of events was the culmination of a long five-day wait for Leonard to make up his mind, working behind the scenes to reel in George and have him request a trade from the organization in order to team up right across from Davis and LeBron James.

“Crazy,” said Davis in an interview with Spectrum SportsNet. “And not just for me, but the entire league. I think the craziest one to me was the Paul George thing. There was no traction on it, no one was bringing it up and then it just happened.

“I think it was the most shocked, like ‘Paul George did what?' But it is what it is. It's going to be a fun season, I think it's definitely spread out evenly throughout the NBA, throughout all the teams.”

The quick succession of Leonard's signing and the trade for George — one that saw the Clippers give up and unprecedented amount of draft picks — not only shook the NBA world to its core but was also a massive gut punch to the Lakers, who lobbied hard to recruit him and felt they were inches away from getting the Finals MVP on their newly-built roster.

The Lakers not only found themselves Leonardless, but now with an in-city rival that could test their firepower in the upcoming season.
