The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Miami Heat on Wednesday behind 31 points from small forward Tobias Harris, and Clipper Nation can thank Patrick Beverley for Harris' big game.

Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks, Tobias Harris had one of his worst games of the season. The swingman scored just nine points on 1-of-9 shooting from the field and the Clippers lost by a final score of 106-98.

Harris is the best player on the Clippers, so his teammates knew they would have to get a big game out of him if they were to rebound in South Beach versus the Heat. That's where Patrick Beverley came in and told Harris to shake off the game he had against the Mavs.

Via Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times:

Their awful shooting earlier that night cost them both a victory against the Mavericks and a chance to bolster their playoff resume, and the understanding of an opportunity lost lingered — especially for forward Tobias Harris. The team’s leading scorer made only one of his nine field goal attempts and Harris, known to analyze every last part of his performances, wasn’t over it.

His teammates recognized it, and the back-and-forth began. A subdued bus grew louder.

Said guard Patrick Beverley: “He struggled yesterday, and it’s not the first time he struggled and wouldn’t be the last time and we just told him that. ‘Get the … off your headphones, shake that … off, and you’ll go have 50.’”

Beverley's pep talk worked for Harris, who shot an efficient 12-of-19 from the floor against the Heat and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. It was a big win for the Clippers, who are now 26-22 on the season, good for eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
