Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s coming out party didn't go unnoticed during the 2016-17 season, winning the KIA Most Improved Player award during the NBA Awards Show and becoming one of only five players to lead his team in all five major statistical categories.

The Greek Freak built on a sensational 2015-16 season to put up career-bests in every category, averaging 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game through 80 games in the season.

Yet the clock has already started to run for the Milwaukee Bucks, who are putting gears in motion to try and retain his services for the long run.

In an interview with Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN's The Ryen Russillo Show, the breaking news extraordinaire discussed the future of Antetokounmpo after what happened to the Utah Jazz with Gordon Hayward‘s recent departure.

“Milwaukee's going to go through this with the Greek Freak,” said Wojnarowski. “That day is coming, right? Where he's going to look and say, ‘Where is this organization? What are they doing here?'”

“Like, you don't think Giannis has been watching what went on there for the last several months? Of what they allowed to go on with the front office? He's watching it and the clock has started.”

“Everybody in the league is trying to figure out how they are going to get him out of there. That has started. So, Milwaukee, I don't want to hear in three years or four years when they lose him, “Geez. we can't… — like, Utah did everything right. Everything right from an organization. They lost their guy. You look at a team like Milwaukee, financially they'll be able to do more, but you better have your organization in great shape because (if not), then you have no chance with a guy like that.”

Antetokounmpo has been widely considered as a generational talent, matched with the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant. But in a league that revolves around winning more than it ever has, deep pockets aren't the only thing keeping stars with their respective franchises, but the opportunity for glory is playing a bigger factor than it has ever before.

Winning teams will do what it takes to pry away Milwaukee's talisman and it is up to the organization to do the right strides to make the team an outright contender before the shot clock runs out and they're forced to turn him over.
