Tuesday night will showcase two ranked Big-12 teams going head to head! It's time to continue our college basketball odds series with an Iowa State-Texas Tech prediction and pick.

Iowa State started off the season hot going undefeated until they faced a tough Baylor team. Since that game, Iowa State has lost two of their last four with one of the losses coming to another ranked opponent. The Cyclones are 14-3 on the season and are coming off a huge win over No. 21 Texas. That was the best scoring outing for them since right before Christmas. Iowa State is now ranked 15th in the nation and faces Texas Tech for the second time in two weeks.

The Red Raiders are 13-4 on the year and are also having a successful season. They are the 18th ranked team and are coming off a bad loss to unranked Kansas State. Texas Tech upset No. 1 Baylor and handed them their first loss of the season back on Jan 11. They even beat No. 6 Kansas the game before so this is certainly a team that can compete with anyone. The Big-12 conference is very competitive so every single game matters for their chances at the Big-12 title.

Why Iowa State Could Cover This Spread

These two teams met just two weeks ago where Iowa State earned the win in a very low-scoring affair. They won 51-47 where both teams really struggled to score. NCAA games don't typically reach a high-scoring game, but anything over 80 points would be considered high. Neither of these teams average near that but close to 70 points per game. It's the defense that propels both of these squads.

Iowa State needs Izaiah Brockington to be on his game in this one. He actually didn't play well in their last matchup against the Red Raiders. He ended with 14 points off 5-16 shooting. They still managed to escape with a win and that was mostly because Texas Tech was without a majority of their best players. Terrence Shannon Jr. and Kevin McCullar both missed the game but have returned to the team since then. Shannon Jr. lost his starting role but still leads the team with 12.6 points per game.

Why Texas Tech Could Cover The Spread

Texas Tech comes into this game as huge favorites at home. This is a rather large spread considering they lost by four the last time they played. They are also coming off of a loss to an unranked Kansas State team. Those aren't good signs if you are wanting to bet on Texas Tech in this one. They will need to contain Brockington once again, and if they do then they should be in a position to cove this spread.

The Red Raiders are 10-7 against the spread and Iowa State is 11-6. Both teams are good ATS so that makes it even tougher to figure out who comes out on top. This game will be won on the offensive end as both defenses will show up. It will be on whoever is able to find their rhythm late in the second half because this should be a close game to the end. Neither side can let up an early lead because if that happens, the other team will likely have trouble shooting their way back into the game.

I gotta assume this is going to be a similar game scoring-wise as last time. Texas Tech will be fully healthy, but I think this spread is too big for them to cover. They are very capable of it, but considering their last results I'm going to take Iowa State to cover this spread. I think it will be a close game from start to finish and the winner will barely squeeze by. Consider taking the under as well, as this was a very low-scoring game last time.
