The Big Ten/ACC Challenge continues with a matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and the North Carolina Tar Heels Wednesday night. It's time to continue our College Basketball odds series with a Michigan-North Carolina prediction and pick based on Michigan North Carolina odds.

Michigan is 4-2 on the season and was ranked 4th earlier in the year before their loss to Seton Hall. They are now No.24 and get ready to face unranked North Carolina. The Wolverines are led by guard Eli Brooks and center Hunter Dickinson. Brooks averages 15.7 points per game and 1.2 steals, Dickinson averages 14.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game on the season. Michigan started the year with high expectations but the possibility of falling to 4-3 will quickly quiet them. Michigan is well-rounded. They rotate nine players for the most part but only Brooks, Dickinson, and Caleb Houston play more than 20 minutes a game. Those three are heavily relied on to win games for Michigan and should be a big factor against UNC if they win.

North Carolina fell out of the rankings after the back-to-back losses to N.6 Purdue and No.17 Tennessee. The other four games and wins were against smaller schools where they handled their business. This will be their third game against a ranked opponent this year and need this win badly. If they fall to 0-3 against ranked teams then that is going to hurt them later in the year if they want to make the NCAA Tournament. Look for UNC to show up because this is one of their biggest games of the season already.

Here is how FanDuel set the Michigan-North Carolina odds for Wednesday night.

Why Michigan Could Cover The Spread

Michigan is very capable of covering this spread. This is going to be a close matchup and one that both teams want badly. Even though UNC is unranked, it's still going to feel like a game between two ranked teams because of the talent on both sides. I've already mentioned who leads Michigan, but the Tar Heels display a very good starting five and it is well balanced. The Wolverines are going to need to force tough shots because UNC can rely on multiple players to score. Brooks will need to show up and lead Michigan in scoring and if that is the case then they can control this game. Michigan is the better defensive team as they give up 14 fewer points than UNC does this season. If Michigan's defense shows up then that will really be the deciding factor. Michigan knows that if they win this game then it can give them a ton of momentum heading into December.

Why North Carolina Could Cover The Spread

North Carolina displays a very good offense. They average 83.2 points per game on the year which is very good for the NCAA. Foward Armando Bacot and guard Caleb Love lead the team in scoring at 15 a game. Bacot is a 6-foot-10 forward that can really excel on both sides of the floor. He can score at will and defense very well. He's shooting 66.7% on the year and has averages 1.8 blocks per game. Bacot will need to continue his great play against Michigan because UNC is relying on it. His play is game-changing but of course, has a really good lineup he plays alongside. Five players average more than 10 points per game and head coach Roy Williams only usually rotates seven players. The starters get s ton of minutes and they likely will again against Michigan. They will need to shut down Brooks and Dickinson if they want a chance to upset Michigan and cover the spread. Their defense isn't as elite as their offense so that will be what to look for Wednesday night.

Final Michigan-North Carolina Prediction & Pick

I'm taking the Tar Heels to cover the spread. It's going to be a close game and I think UNC has too many elite players for Michigan to control. It's going to be an exciting game to watch because it's a battle between a good offense versus good defense. In college, the better offense usually ends up winning the game. It's not like Michigan is bad on offense though, I just don't think they can play as well if UNC steps their defense up. Let's see which team comes out on top in the end, but one thing I do expect to happen is UNC covering the spread and having a chance to win the game in the final minutes.

Final Michigan-North Carolina Prediction & Pick: North Carolina +4.5 ()
