The Texas A&M Aggies take on the Auburn Tigers. Our college basketball odds series has our Texas A&M Auburn prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Texas A&M Auburn.

The SEC basketball season has been fascinating. For one thing, Alabama has become the clear favorite, and Kentucky is nowhere to be found in the race for the conference championship. Arkansas is fighting to get to .500 in the SEC in late January. LSU has bottomed out and has become a very weak program. Missouri is on the rise. Georgia is not a doormat anymore. Lots of things about this season are very different compared to 2022.

Texas A&M and Auburn have been less different than most of the teams in the conference.

Last season, Texas A&M struggled in nonconference play and picked up some really bad losses before improving noticeably once it got into the SEC portion of its schedule. That general trajectory has been replicated this season, with the Aggies tracing that same path and putting themselves on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. A&M will need to collect more high-end wins to feel good about its position, given the bad losses it absorbed in November and December. This game at Auburn offers the Aggies a real shot. Keep in mind that A&M beat Auburn in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals last March. Many thought that would get A&M into the NCAAs, but A&M was one of the first four teams out of the field.

Auburn has a penchant for being volatile yet explosive. Auburn is scary when everything is going great, but it looks absolutely horrible when not on top of its game. The Tigers have to solve this fundamental problem if they want to make a run this March.

Why Texas A&M Could Cover The Spread

If the Texas A&M Aggies want to make a run to the NCAA Tournament, they will have to win some big road games before too long. This is one really big chance to do so. The knowledge that A&M did beat Auburn last season — when the Tigers were the SEC champions and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament — should help coach Buzz Williams get this Aggie team to score yet another victory over Bruce Pearl in a high-leverage situation. A&M didn't fear Auburn when it beat the Tigers and future lottery pick Jabari Smith last season. It won't fear a comparatively less talented Auburn team in this game.

Why Auburn Could Cover The Spread

The Tigers have to remember their disappointing loss to Texas A&M last March, which cost them a shot at a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Given that Auburn lost in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed, it is reasonable to say that the drop from a 1 seed to a 2 seed hurt Auburn's chances of making a run to the Final Four. The memory of that failure should serve as a powerful form of motivation against Texas A&M in this contest. That will enable Auburn to show the intensity and the focus it needs to be at its best. If Auburn plays well, A&M is not going to beat the Plainsmen on the road.

Final Texas A&M-Auburn Prediction & Pick

Stay away from this game. Auburn is such a volatile, unreliable team that you just shouldn't depend on the Tigers against a hungry opponent which badly needs to win for its NCAA Tournament hopes.
