For the first time in his NFL career, Philip Rivers will not be entering a season with the Chargers. Los Angeles parted ways with the veteran quarterback earlier this offseason, leading to Rivers inking a deal with the Indianapolis Colts to begin a new chapter.

While Rivers struggled in 2019, one thing remained the same: his durability.

The 38-year-old has made 224 consecutive starts dating back to 2006, and that is something of which he is proud:

“I think there are a lot of things that go into that, right?” Rivers said ahead of his first season with the Colts, according to Phillip B. Wilson of Sports Illustrated. “I have been blessed enough to be healthy enough to be out there. There is an element of toughness to it. Also, it means your guys are protecting you. There are so many things involved that allow you to be able to suit up each and every week, but that’s always been important to me to be available and to be out there every Sunday that I could be.”

The Colts' new quarterback also gave shout outs to some other NFL ironmen from the past, naming Peyton and Eli Manning as well as Brett Favre:

“I always admired that about Peyton and obviously about Brett Favre, Eli as well, and many guys,” said Rivers. “There are some circumstances that you can’t help it and I certainly understand that, but I always thought those guys being out there each and every week – I’ve always admired that about those guys and always wanted to be in that group from a standpoint of being available every Sunday.”

The eight-time Pro Bowler is set to lead the Colts after coming off of a season in which he threw for 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 88.5.
