UFC Vegas 90: Brendan Allen vs. Chris Curtis continues on the prelims with a fight in the welterweight division between Court McGee and Alex Morono. McGee has now been knocked out in each of his last two fights in the first round meanwhile, Morono is on a 1-2 skid in his last three as he comes into this matchup. With that said, check out our UFC odds series for our McGee-Morono prediction and pick.

Court McGee (21-12) is now just 2-5 in his last seven games at age 39 while coming off back-to-back brutal knockouts in his last two fights. It seems like McGee's best days are behind him at this stage of his career but he will be looking to right the ship when he takes on Alex “The Great White” Morono this weekend at UFC Vegas 90.

Alex Morono (23-9) is now on a 1-2 skid in his last three fights most recently dropping a unanimous decision to the surging Joaquin Buckley in his last fight. Before that, he was able to submit Tim Means and was on his way to beating Santiago Ponzinibbio on very short notice until he got caught in round three. Now, Morono will be looking to get himself back into the win column when he takes on Court McGee this Saturday night.

Why Court McGee Will Win

Court McGee has now lost back-to-back fights brutally each by first-round knockout. He also now lost five out of his last seven fights. The former Ultimate Fighter winner will be looking to finally right the ship when he gets back in there this weekend to take on Alex Morono and UFC Vegas 90.

McGee is at his best when he can wear out his opponents with his pace and his grappling and that is something that can work against Morono. If there is one weakness of Morono it is his takedown defense and his ability to get stuck against the cage having to defend takedowns. However, McGee will need to walk through some fire to get on the inside to land his takedowns. If McGee can hang in there on the feet and drag Morono to the mat, rinse and repeat for three rounds he can finally get himself back on track this weekend.

Why Alex Morono Will Win

Alex “The Great White” Morono also has hit a rough patch losing two out of his last three fights. Sandwiched in between his two losses was a second-round submission victory over Tim Means. Some forget that Morono was essentially on his way to beating Santiago Ponzinibbio on very short notice only to get knocked out in the remaining moments of round three for the loss. He will look to bounce back this weekend at the UFC Apex.

Morono is a dangerous opposition for anyone in the welterweight division because he is so well-rounded. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt that has a nasty guillotine and he also possesses the pop in his strikes that makes him dangerous on the feet. While McGee may be on the tail end of his career he is still a formidable opponent that Morono shouldn't take lightly. Morono will need to be the one pushing the pace and trying to break down McGee if he wants to be victorious and get back on track this weekend.

Final Court McGee-Alex Morono Prediction & Pick

These two longtime welterweight contenders are looking to get back on track this weekend when they go to battle at the UFC Apex. Court McGee can sometimes surprise us when we least expect it like he did when he dominated Ramiz Brahimaj. As for Morono, he far exceeds expectations every time he steps inside the Octagon.

McGee will be at his best when he's able to be the one being the aggressor, making Morono fight on his back foot. That is when he can trap Morono against the cage and then attempt his takedowns wearing on him. Morono will need to utilize his movement and punish McGee as he attempts to get in range. The way that McGee doesn't seem to be durable anymore at age 39 leads me to believe that Morono is going to come in there and get him out of there early to get back on track this weekend at UFC Vegas 90.
